• Dr. Robert Košak, MD, Specialist in Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Robert Košak is an orthopedic specialist with particular expertise in spinal disorders. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana in 1996.

During his studies, he received the Prešeren Award in 1993 for scientific research.

After graduation, in 1997 he began working at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana at the Orthopedic Clinic, where he started his specialization in orthopedics the same year. In 2000, he earned a Master of Science degree with a thesis on the analysis of wear in hip endoprostheses, and in 2006 he obtained a PhD in the same field. In 2003, he passed the orthopedic specialist examination. Already during his specialization, he developed a strong interest in spinal disorders and began performing spinal surgeries. After completing his specialization, he continued working at the Orthopedic Clinic in Ljubljana, in the Department of Spine Surgery, where he remained until July 2018.

He is currently the Medical Director at the private MD Medicina Sanatorium in Ljubljana, where he performs exclusively spinal surgeries. He operates on the entire spine — cervical, thoracic, and lumbar — and treats the full range of spinal pathologies. His main area of expertise is the treatment of pediatric spinal deformities (scoliosis). He is the only spine surgeon in Slovenia who treats the most severe deformities.

He has introduced several new scoliosis treatment methods to Slovenia that he learned abroad and continues to perform exclusively, including the anterior approach to scoliosis correction and the Growing Rod MAGEC system for treating scoliosis in very young children.
